Fiona Dear was awarded a full scholarship to train at The Legat School of Russian Ballet under the tutelage of Mme Eunice Bartell. Fiona graduated to the Scottish Ballet Company at the young age of 17 due to her artistry and stage presentation gained by her Legat training. During her twelve years as a professional ballet dancer, she danced solo roles in all the major productions including Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet and Giselle and had roles created for her by the company founder and acclaimed choreographer, Peter Darrell CBE.
On retiring, Fiona became a professional choreographer. Three of her pieces, Highland Clearances, Ragtime and Skazka (a three act ballet for children commissioned by the Scottish Arts Council), became part of the Company’s repertoire. Fiona has also choreographed for the Scottish Opera, stage shows at the Edinburgh Lyceum, Fashion shows for Burberry and House of Fraser and even a Royal Variety Performance.
During her professional career, Fiona gained her teacher’s certificates for The Russian Ballet Society. She now travels all over the world to places like Japan, Slovenia, Malta and Italy as an examiner and guest teacher for the Russian Ballet Society and Legat Foundation.
Since leaving Scotland, Fiona has established her own successful dance school, North Star Academy in Hertfordshire.
Fiona is now looking forward to being part of the Russian Ballet Awards.
